Teams Not Connecting

If Microsoft Teams won't open, isn't loading, is stuck loading, won't connect to meetings, or isn't syncing messages, follow these steps.


Symptoms

  • Teams will not open
  • Teams stuck on a "Loading", "Signing In", or "Connecting" screen.
  • You are unable to send or receive messages.
  • Calls and meetings will not connect.


Common Causes

  • Temporary application issue
  • Network or internet connection problems
  • Cached data causing Teams to freeze/hang
  • Outdated application version


Step-by-Step Fix

Try this first

  1. Restart Microsoft Teams
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Open Teams again


Check your connection

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet
  2. Try opening a website (for example, https://google.com)


Re-enter your credentials

  1. Enter your password carefully when prompted
  2. Complete any sign-in prompts


Sign out of Teams

  1. Open Microsoft Teams
  2. Click your profile icon (top right)
  3. Click Sign Out
  4. Close Teams completely
  5. Reopen Teams
  6. Sign in again


Clear the Teams cache

  1. Close Teams completely.
  2. Press Windows key + R.
  3. Type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and press Enter.
  4. Delete everything in the folder.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Open Teams and sign in.


Check for Updates

  1. Open Microsoft Teams
  2. Click your profile icon (top right)
  3. Click Check for updates
  4. Install any available updates
